How to Pass the PMP in 30 Days: A Study Plan

A realistic 30-day PMP study plan for working professionals, week by week, built around the July 2026 exam content outline and full-length mock exams.

How to Pass the PMP in 30 Days: A Study Plan

Thirty days is tight but realistic if you already work in projects, have your 35 contact hours, and can give the exam about two hours on weekdays and four to five hours on weekend days. This plan assumes the July 2026 exam: 180 questions in 240 minutes, weighted People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%.

Before day 1

  • Book your exam for day 31 or 32. A fixed date keeps the plan honest.
  • Download PMI's July 2026 Examination Content Outline and read the task list once.
  • Pick one main study source and one bank of practice questions. More sources mean more reading, not more learning.

Week 1: Build the frame (days 1 to 7)

Goal: understand how PMI thinks, and cover the People domain.

  • Days 1 and 2: principles and the PMI mindset. Servant leadership, value delivery, tailoring, stakeholder engagement.
  • Days 3 and 4: People domain. Conflict, team development, virtual teams, emotional intelligence, coaching and mentoring.
  • Day 5: agile fundamentals. Roles, events, artifacts, the difference between an agile coach and a project manager.
  • Day 6: take a 60-question timed practice set. Do not worry about the score yet.
  • Day 7: review every question from day 6, including the ones you got right. Write down why each wrong option was wrong.

Week 2: Process (days 8 to 14)

Goal: the largest domain, including all calculations.

  • Days 8 and 9: scope, schedule, critical path, float, crashing and fast tracking.
  • Day 10: cost and earned value. Learn the four EAC formulas and when each one applies.
  • Day 11: risk and quality. Secondary and residual risk, reserves, control charts.
  • Day 12: procurement, contracts and change control.
  • Day 13: first full mock exam, 180 questions in one four-hour sitting with two 10-minute breaks.
  • Day 14: review the mock. Sort your mistakes into three piles: knowledge gap, misread question, and wrong mindset.

Week 3: Business Environment and hybrid (days 15 to 21)

Goal: the domain most candidates underestimate.

  • Days 15 and 16: governance, phase gates, benefits management, business cases.
  • Day 17: compliance, regulation, data protection, ethics.
  • Day 18: organizational change, adoption, strategy changes, sustainability.
  • Day 19: hybrid projects and tailoring. When to use predictive, adaptive or a mix.
  • Day 20: second full mock exam.
  • Day 21: review, with extra time on any domain below target.

Week 4: Close the gaps (days 22 to 30)

  • Days 22 to 24: targeted practice on your weakest domain. Use domain-specific question sets.
  • Day 25: third full mock exam.
  • Days 26 and 27: review, then rework every question you missed in all three mocks.
  • Day 28: formulas and key terms, one last time.
  • Day 29: light review only. Read your notes on why wrong answers were wrong.
  • Day 30: rest. Check your exam logistics, ID and route to the test center, or your room and computer if you test online.

What score should you aim for?

PMI does not publish a pass mark, and results are reported as performance ratings per domain. As a practical rule, if you consistently score above 75% on hard, full-length mock exams, you are in a good position. If you are below 65% after the second mock, consider moving your date by one or two weeks rather than hoping.

Three habits that matter more than hours

  1. Review more than you test. A mock exam is only useful when you study the explanations afterwards.
  2. Practice at full length. Four hours of concentration is a skill. Train it at least twice.
  3. Learn the reason, not the answer. The exam reuses situations, not questions. If you know why an answer wins, you will recognize the pattern in a new scenario.

Our Udemy practice exams give you four full-length mock exams and a 900-question bank organized by domain, which fits weeks 2 to 4 of this plan. Use code PREPAREPMP for the reduced price.
